Draft Equipment

Brewing Your Own Beer Can Save You Money and Provide Superior Taste

If you are someone that is a connoisseur of beer, then making your own beer might be a good option. If you’ve had enough of the same old tastes at your local watering hole or liquor store, you can make your own at home and become the envy of all of your friends. Brewing your own beer requires a few things in order to make it work. You have to have the right equipment, the proper ingredients for the type of beer that you want to make, and a lot of patience.

Having the right equipment at home is a critical step in the process of making beer. Some of the most necessary items to have at home include the following: a brew pot, a fermenter, some plastic hose, bottles and bottle stoppers just to name a few. When brewing your own beer, the brew pot needs to be large (at least 16 quarts) and it needs to be made out of stainless steel – aluminum will not work. The fermenter needs to be a high quality one made out of plastic that will not allow any bacteria or germs to enter in. The fermenter also needs to be air tight and have a fairly large capacity. The plastic hose is simply used to transfer the beer from one place to another. Once it has been boiled, it will go into the fermenter to sit for a while. The bottles and bottle stoppers are pretty self-explanatory. This is where the beer goes to ferment for a second time. This is also how you will enjoy the delicious brew.

When cooking up the beer, the most important step is to clean and sanitize all of the equipment you will be using. Brewing your own beer can be a fun experience, but if any bacteria gets into the liquid, it can make the fermenting process an ugly one. It is also important to note that cleaning and sanitizing are two different steps. Cleaning is the initial phase, sanitizing is another step after that using bleach or something else along those lines. Actually cooking the beer is a lot easier if you use a beer making kit. That way all of the ingredients are included.

The final stage of brewing your beer is waiting for the beer to ferment and become ready to drink. The initial fermentation can take 5 days or more. Once this is finished the beer is transferred to your bottles and then it needs to ferment again for about two weeks. It is a long time to wait, but making your beer can be well worth it.
